Australia is facing a critical skills shortage across industries, with a decade worth of cuts to TAFE, more needs to be done to address the gaps in education and employability outcomes for young people. A new report from the National Youth Commission into youth employment and transitions has found Australian apprenticeships are failing young people, with more investment needed to attract and support talent. While short-term shortages may be filled by skilled migrants, long-term skilling of young Australian workers will be a better, more sustainable solution the report finds.
